(C) Competent Persons

(1) How to become competent person locating underground electricity cable?

  • 1.To become a competent person, a person shall
    • attend and pass a course in the locating of underground electricity cables; and
    • have not less than 6 months’ practical experience in locating underground electricity cables during the period of 3 years immediately preceding his application;
    • submit his application to the EMSD for vetting and approval.

Steps to become a competent person:

Step 1:
Attend and pass a course in the locating of underground electricity cables organised by one of the following institutions:

  1. (a) HK Institute of Construction, Construction Industry CouncilHK Institute of Construction, Construction Industry Council
  2. (b) HK Institute of Vocational Education (Haking Wong), Vocational Training CouncilHK Institute of Vocational Education (Haking Wong), Vocational Training Council
  3. (c) Industrial Centre, The HK Polytechnic UniversityIndustrial Centre, The HK Polytechnic University

Step 2:
Have not less than 6 months’ practical experiences in locating underground electricity cables during the period of 3 years immediately preceding his application.

Step 3:
Submit his application to the EMSD for vetting and approval. The application shall include the application form together with supporting documents (i.e. company letter, his supervising competent person’s supporting document to confirm his working experience and training certificate) and application fee.
