(7) Periodic Inspection, Testing and Certification of Fixed Electrical Installations

  • 1.Lack of maintenance of electrical installations will present safety risk, which may result in fire or power outage. Owners of electrical installations shall have their installations inspected, tested and certified periodically. Offenders will be prosecuted.

1.An owner of an electrical installation is a person who is in possession or control of the installation. For example, owners of communal electrical installations include incorporated owners, property management companies and all landlords and tenants of individual units.

Periodic inspection must be carried out by a registered electrical contractor, who shall issue a Periodic Test Certificate (Form WR2) after the work.

2.The Periodic Test Certificate (Form WR2) shall be delivered to the EMSD for endorsement within 2 weeks of the date of certification. The owner shall keep the certificate properly for future inspection by EMSD staff.

An installation owner, who fails to complete the inspection and testing before the time limit, commits an offence and is liable to a fine of $10,000.
